HOW BLESSED ARE YOU ?

Oftentimes I'll ask someone how are you and the response invariably is "girl I'm blessed! Let's examine what it means to be blessed. Webster defines blessed as: "enjoying the bliss of heaven". So could it be that we are limiting what it means to be blessed? Our thoughts as scripture says are not like God's thoughts. Maybe your concept of being blessed is based on the fact that you are living better than the people you know. Could it be that your blessing gauge has nothing to do with bliss or heaven. Yes, many of us are blessed with health, family, employment, food, and housing. Could it be the previously mentioned blessings are just the tip of the iceberg? God said prove me and see that I will bless you so much that you will not be able to contain it (paraphrase). Now that's BLESSED!

I AM FEARFULLY AND WONDERFULLY MADE

It is so easy to get lost inside of our minds and believe things about ourselves that are untrue. Sometimes we have to step back and consult with the ultimate authority regarding our importance and significance to the Creator of the Universe.  Psalm 139:1-18 O  Lord , you have examined my heart   and know everything about me. You know when I sit down or stand up.You know my thoughts even when I’m far away. You see me when I travel and when I rest at home. You know everything I do. You know what I am going to say even before I say it,  Lord . You go before me and follow me. You place your hand of blessing on my head. Such knowledge is too wonderful for me,   too great for me to understand!   I can never escape from your Spirit. I can never get away from your presence! If I go up to heaven, you are there; if I go down to the grave, you are there. If I ride the wings of the morning   if I dwell by the farthest oceans, even there your hand ...

I JUST DON'T GET THE GREEK STUFF

I admittedly am not a fan of Greek life. I attended Greek Shows at Xavier and Dillard Universities while a student at Our Lady of Holy Cross and they were always fun. However, I had been volunteering and serving others since I was in elementary school so it made no sense to me to pay an organization to serve others. It just sounded ridiculous and full of hype. So my son starts attending Dillard University in 2013 and I wanted him to live on campus to experience "college life". Little did I know that he would be recruited by the Greeks. When he mentioned as a freshman that some guys from Alpha Phi Alpha told him he should look at them I was dismissive and firmly stated he needed to keep his focus. During the sophomore year his interest intensified. My husband and I presented this negative picture of fraternities, but he was firm in his desire to pledge [for a sense of brotherhood]. All of his application requirements were in order and the chapter decided not have a line last ...

I AM AFFIRMATIONS

Life is beautiful! However life can also be difficult and hard. It is so easy to allow tragedies, disappointments and setbacks to get in our way. Thereby sullying God's sacred posture in our human experience. When Moses had an encounter with God and questioned how he was to identify or describe God to the children of Israel. God replied to Moses: "I Am Who I Am. Say this to the people of Israel: I Am has sent me to you." Mirror work has been used for eons to bring people into alignment with their purpose, destiny, and calling. Instead of reciting traditional positive affirmations let's use scripture for backup. Stand in front of a mirror and tell yourself •I am God’s child for I am born again of the incorruptible seed of the Word of God which lives and abides forever 1 Pet. 1:23 •I am forgiven all my sins and washed in the blood Eph. 1:7 •I am a new creature II Cor. 5:17 •I am the temple of the Holy Spirit I Cor. 6:19 •I am delivered from the power ...
